Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Social inclusion of people with disabilities (PWDs) is essential for achieving equitable development and human rights. In Sabon Gari LGA, Kano State, stigma, discrimination, and infrastructural barriers often limit the participation of PWDs in education, employment, and social activities. Public relations (PR) plays a crucial role in advocating for inclusivity by raising awareness, promoting policies, and fostering community acceptance. Effective PR campaigns can challenge stereotypes, empower PWDs, and encourage inclusive practices. Studies affirm the importance of PR in shaping attitudes and influencing policy changes for the benefit of marginalized groups (Ibrahim & Bello, 2023).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to promote social inclusion, PWDs in Sabon Gari LGA continue to face challenges due to societal attitudes and systemic neglect. The lack of effective PR advocacy contributes to these barriers. This study examines how PR can address these issues and promote social inclusion for PWDs.
